Delek Tulum Destination Wedding in Mexico
Cary and James planned a destination wedding at Delek Tulum, an eco-forward luxury resort in the heart of Tulum, Mexico. Inspired by historic native architecture, sustainability, and the unparalleled natural beauty of the Mayan Riviera, Delek Tulum encompasses the best of two distinct worlds: the intimate and exotic Yucatán jungle and the warm white sand beaches of the Caribbean. Throughout the resort, sand pathways wind through thick foliage leading you on a jungle exploration past luxurious grass roof cabana guest rooms placed throughout the estate. At the far end of the property lies a private beach oasis framed by soaring palms where the wedding festivities took place.
Lali Renovatto of The Planner designed James and Cary’s big day, taking cues from the natural beauty of Delek Tulum and producing a timeless affair with a bohemian color palette: dusty corals, natural linens, and soft turquoise mimicking the crystal sea just steps away. Natural wood and stone with pops of gold metallics gave a modern twist to the boho vibe. Florals were inspired by native foliage, consisting of a mix of dried and fresh flowers, sunburst grasses, and cascading palm fronds.
Cary and James sported handsome beach-appropriate wedding attire: smart khaki slacks, white linen button-ups, customized monogrammed suspenders, and bare feet—ideal for a tropical beach wedding. In fact, because all their guests stayed on property in the days leading up to the wedding, no one wore shoes throughout the event! The gender-inclusive wedding party consisted of the grooms’ family and closest friends. Bridesmaids donned gowns in either soft turquoise or coral with gifted monogram-etched gold bracelets, while groomsmen sported a similar look as the grooms with monogrammed leather belts given as wedding party gifts.
The ceremony site was set against the backdrop of the inviting beaches of Tulum with white-washed chairs placed directly on the white sand beach for guest seating. Both grooms were led down the aisle by their families, passing through floating white double doors, symbolizing entering into a new life together united in marriage. Cary and James recited personalized vows in front of their guests before saying their I Do’s. Afterwards, they were whisked away for romantic sunset portraits atop a three story tower with panoramic views from the jungle to the sea!
The cocktail hour took place on the steps of the grass hut library leading to the beach. Lounge seating was arranged on the sand with velvet sofas and elegant chairs for guests to mingle while enjoying passed hors d'oeuvres, abundant tequila shots, and custom cocktails. Throughout cocktail hour and the reception, guests were serenaded by the outstanding vocal talents of Rain Bisou.
Guests made their way to the al fresco reception space, steps away from the beach at Delek Tulum’s fabulous chef-inspired restaurant which focuses on locally-sourced and seasonal Mexican and Caribbean dishes. Tables were appointed with abundant floral arrangements, pillar candles, and elegant tableware. After a night of festivities, James, Cary, and their guests danced the night away under the stars, enveloped by the warm Caribbean sea breeze and the sound of waves lapping just a few steps away.
